Welcome to the World of NORO

Welcome to the World of NORO

We’re beyond thrilled to introduce something truly special to The Knit Nook family!

NORO Haunui yarns have landed in New Zealand, and they’re even more stunning in person than we imagined.

If you’re already a NORO fan, you know this is no ordinary yarn. If you’re just hearing the name for the first time, let us open the door to a world of colour, craftsmanship and natural beauty unlike anything else.

The NORO Philosophy

Founded by Eisaku Noro in Japan in the 1970s, the NORO brand is built on a deep respect for nature, fibre, and artistry. Their motto is simple but powerful:
"The world of nature is beautiful. Therefore, I want to use natural fibres."

NORO yarns are celebrated for their minimally processed fibres that retain their natural character and loft, spectacular colour transitions and sustainability. Every skein tells a story and no two are quite the same.

Meet Haunui Wool: A Cross-Continental Collaboration

Our first NORO offerings are part of the Haunui collection and they’re especially meaningful, as the wool is sourced right here in the Southern Hemisphere.

Haunui Wool (pronounced Ho-noo-ee, meaning “place of the winds” in Māori) is a unique, single-breed yarn created from sheep raised on a family farm in New Zealand’s South Island. The Haunui sheep are a carefully bred cross of New Zealand Halfbred and fine Romney stock selected for both softness and character.

This extraordinary yarn celebrates the beauty of nature in its purest form, featuring undyed shades straight from the fleece—creamy whites, silvery greys, warm browns, and deep blacks. Rustic yet soft, it has just enough tooth to provide structure while remaining gentle against the skin. A delicate halo adds character, while its excellent stitch definition makes it ideal for heirloom-quality sweaters, shawls, and accessories that are made to last.

Introducing Haunui Silk

We’re also excited to introduce NORO Haunui Silk, a luxurious, undyed yarn that pairs the earthy character of New Zealand Haunui wool with the smooth elegance of Mulberry silk. This unique blend of 65% mixed-breed Haunui wool from the Taranui farm and 35% raw Mulberry silk results in a yarn that is soft, strong and effortlessly elegant. With beautiful drape and a gentle sheen, it’s perfect for lighter-weight garments, scarves and statement knits where texture and flow take centre stage. It’s the kind of yarn you pick up for the feel and stay for the story.

Why We Brought NORO to The Knit Nook

We’re always on the lookout for yarns that make you feel something. Joy, warmth, connection. And NORO is pure emotion in fibre form. Their commitment to slow craft and honouring the land and nature speaks to things we value here.

Whether you're craving a palette cleanser for your stash or looking to cast on your next lifelong-favourite piece, NORO Haunui offers a soulful, wooly experience you’ll fall in love with. Stay tuned for more colourful options in the coming months..

From our nook to yours,
Katie
